Upholding God's Standard By the Way We Live

I worked for an engineering company for two years.  In the second year, the Lord began to show me how our world system has been purposed for destruction.  My spirit was grieved and I asked the Lord "What can I do?  So many people are going to suffer in this age and the next."  I surveyed my daily work and found my efforts wanting.  My own labor was contributing directly to a system destined to fail.  I knew I could not continue with a clear conscious, but I did not know how I was going to find suitable employment.  Every job I'd ever had involved working with shrewd people and deceptive means.  I cried out to God, "How can a moral person survive in this world?"  But He assured me that keeping His command is more important than seeking after material needs.  I am reminded of Matthew chapter 6 when Jesus said:

Therefore I tell you, fdo not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?  ... But nseek first othe kingdom of God and his righteousness,pand all these things will be added to you.

I recommend you read the entire chapter 6 in your own Bible and ask God to help you understand it deeply.  It is clear from the passage that God does not want us to fret over material things.  He does say that we should take them into consideration and that we should be wise in our ventures, but he wants us to always seek His righteousness first.  If we seek Him before all else, He promises that He will provide for us.

I took Jesus on His Word.  I quit my job so that I could enter a life closer to Him where I could obey His commands fully and trust Him to provide for my every need.  He has been faithful to keep his promise.  He opened my eyes to things more incredible than what I previously could have known, and He has blessed me with the means to do good by spreading the information He gives me.  It has not been easy.  I can assure you that even people close to me have attempted to persuade me away from the right path.  Every single person who has chosen to follow Jesus closely will tell you the same thing happens to them.  They are challenged more than ever, because Satan does not want them to succeed.  But they always tell how the Lord provided for every need when they kept their faith in Him.

This is the basis for the Holden Sustainable Living Forum.  We confess that making provision for ourselves and those around us requires wisdom, but that the only wisdom worth having comes from God.  We seek to uphold God's moral law through farming techniques, employment practices, and lifestyles that honor the Love of Jesus Christ.
